      Be Faithful in Marriage

      Exodus 20:14

      Thou shalt not commit adultery

God made the first man, Adam, from the dust of the ground. God knew it wasn't good for a man to be alone, so He made a woman to aid Adam. He made these first humans male and female. God looked at the man and woman He had made and called His creation good.

God gave Adam and Eve the Garden of Eden to live in and tend. In the Garden were two trees. One was the tree of life. The other was the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. God told Adam and Eve to stay away from The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. God warned the first man and woman if they took fruit from that tree they would die.

But Satan convinced Eve that she should disobey God. He told her that if she took from the forbidden tree she would become like God and be able to chose for herself what was right and what was wrong. Eve believed Satan and took the fruit and ate. Then she gave some of it to her husband, Adam, and he also ate of the fruit. Satan had deceived Eve, but Adam was not deceived. (1st Timothy 2:14)

After Adam and Eve ate the fruit a change came over them. They no longer looked to God for guidance, for they had eaten the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. This tree was symbolic of Adam and Eve rejecting God's revealed truth and following the way that seemed right to them. (Genesis 3:5)

After Adam and Eve disobeyed God made them leave the Garden. God told the woman that, as a result of what she had done, she would bring forth children in sorrow; and that she would desire her husband, but that he would rule over her. God told Adam that he would have to work hard to earn his living and that he would die and return to the dust when he died. (Genesis 3:16-19)

Adam and Eve started a family. Eve knew great sorrow when her son, Cain, murdered his own brother, Abel. Not only she lose Abel, but her other son, Cain, became a fugitive and a vagabond. In His mercy, God granted Eve another son who she named Seth (Genesis 4:25)

As more and more children were born and grew up people begin to forgot about God and His laws. They forgot that God had created a man and a woman to be one (Genesis 2:24). Men begin to take as many wives as they wanted. (Genesis 6:1-2 Matthew 24:38)

The bible tells us that in the end time it will be as it was before the great flood, with men and women taking as many 'partners' as they wish. (Matthew 24:37-38)

      Marriage is honorable. (Hebrews 13:4)

Many today don't realize the importance of being loyal to just one special person. When asked if it was lawful for a man to divorce his wife for just any reason, Jesus answered:

"Haven't you read, that he who made them from the beginning made them male and female, and said, 'Because of this a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined inseparably (Living Bible) to his wife and the two of them shall be one flesh?'

So they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore those God has joined together let not man separate" (Matthew 19:4-6)

Jesus tells us that marriage is so important that a man isn't even to look at another woman in an inappropriate way. (Matthew 5: 27-28)

Too often in the world we see people who don't understand the true happiness that comes from being loyal to one person. (Proverbs 29:18 Romans 1:21-24; Ecclesiastes 9:9)

Being loyal to ones mate is so important to God that adulterers will not enter His kingdom. (1st Corinthians 6:9)

Just as Jesus loves the Church and gave His life for it, men are to love their own wives. And as the Bride of Christ (the Church) is to love and be loyal and obedient to Jesus, wives are to be to their own husbands.

A loving husband and wife produce loving and respectful children. (Proverbs 22:6; Ephesians 6:4)

God wants husbands and wives to stay married. But if a husband or wife leaves, Paul says that the one who was not responsible for the break up is free to marry again (1 Corinthians 7:15)

It is NEVER the child's fault when a marriage ends. Divorce is a grown-up decision made for a number of reasons. It is not our place to judge others. God is our judge and we shall all stand before Him to receive reward for the things we have done, whether it be good or bad. (2nd Corinthians 5:10)

Adultery and fornication are works of the flesh, but love and faithfulness is a fruit of the Spirit.

Fornication is having a close physical relationship with someone before marriage. Fornication is a sin against our own bodies. Christians are to flee fornication. (1st Corinthians 6:18)

When put in a situation where he was tempted to sin against his own body, Joseph ran! (Genesis 39: 7-12)

Neither adultery NOR fornication are to be part of a Christian's life. (Ephesians 5:3)
