      A Few Reference Verses

A few readers have wondered why we began our bible stories on the Book of Genesis with 'In A beginning', instead of using the traditional King James version 'In the beginning'. Remember, the bible was not written in English, but Hebrew and Greek. A closer look at the Hebrew word translated 'In the beginning' and a study of a few other scriptures will prove that God did not create the world in a state of waste and confusion six thousand years ago. It was created perfect before six thousand years ago and became waste and confusion because of Satan's rebellion. Then God re-created the surface of the earth as the perfect place for mankind to live.

      Genesis 1:1-2

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness [was] upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

There's a lot in these two short verses that we need to go to the original Hebrew and to other scriptures to understand. When properly understood, scripture and man's science, (when it's true science) do not disagree, but rather, science supports what is written in God's Word - the only source of TRUE knowledge.

To find the first place in time-order where the Bible mentions God is not, surprisingly, in Genesis at all, but in John's writing in the new testament.

John 1:1-4 states: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men"

"THE WORD" in John 1:1 is translated from the Greek word logos which means "spokesman," "word" or "revelatory thought."

Who or what is this Logos? John 1:14 explains.
"And the Word (Logos) was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth."

Hebrews 1:1-2 tells us God, who in sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he had appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds."

Speaking of Jesus Christ, Paul tells us in Philippins 2:5-8 "Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even death on a cross."

From these verses we see that GOD (who later became the Father) created all things through the WORD, who became flesh and dwelt among us as the man (who was also God in the flesh) Jesus Christ.

I Corinthians 10:1-4 1 adds more insight into the role of the WORD, who later became the Son of God:

      " Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
      And did all eat the same spiritual meat;
And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

From these scriptures we can see that the WORD - who later became flesh and dwelt among us as the Son of God and man - was with GOD from the beginning. By this Word God created ALL things. This same WORD was the spiritual Rock of the old testament.

What was the first thing that God created through the WORD? Was it the earth?

Colossians 1:16 "For by him (speaking of Jesus Christ) were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether [they be] thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:"

This verse tells us that the WORD created things both visible and invisible.

      Consider what God told Job.

"Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? declare, if you have understanding. Who has laid the measures thereof if you know? Or who has stretched the line upon it? Where are the foundations thereof fastened? Or who laid the corner stone thereof; --When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God (the angels - see NIV version) shouted for joy."
      Job 38:4-7

So the angels existed before the earth was created, for they were present, and sang for joy when God brought it into existence.

The angels were in attendance and sang for joy when God created the earth, therefore, they must have existed before mankind was formed from the dust of the ground. These angels were certainly not beings who had once been human but had, after death, become angels! This would have been impossible, since the human race hadn't as yet been created.

The word day in Genesis 2:4 comes from the Hebrew word Yowm and does not necessary mean a twenty-four hour day. Just as Adam and Eve didn't drop dead in the "day" that they eat the forbidden fruit "Genesis2:17

The New King James (as well as others) translate the first verse of Genesis more correctly: "God created the heavens," plural.

Genesis 2:4 supports the fact that God created the entire universe at the same time he created the earth.

"These are the generations (beginnings) of the heavens (plural) and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens."

What was the earth like when God created it? Was it a perfect creation? Or was it 'without form and void'; and covered with darkness as verse two seems to indicate?

The words without form and void come from the Hebrew words Tohuw and Bohuw. Tohuw means to "lie waste, a desolation". The word Bohuw means "emptiness, an undistinguishable ruin". Would God create a world that was in waste and desolation, and an empty undistinguiable ruin? Isaiah 45:18 tells us that God created the earth NOT in vain (tohuw). Either these scriptures contradict each other, or God created a perfect earth that became tohuw and bohuw after it was created.

What could cause the earth, which, God did NOT create in a state of waste and ruin to become covered with darkness and desolation?

Since I Cor. 14:33 tells us that God is NOT the author of confusion, we can conclude that something, or someone else caused the earth to become in such a state. Who could be responsible for such massive destruction?

Ezekiel 28:12-15 Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyrus, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty.
Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone [was] thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.
Thou [art] the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee [so]: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.
Thou [wast] perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.

Satan, known then as "Light Bringer" or "Shining Star of the Dawn", to us as today as Lucifer, was created perfect in his ways. UNTIL iniquity was found in him.

What sort of iniquity was found in this created spirit being?

Isaiah 14: 12-14 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! [how] art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

Lucifer ascended into heaven (meaning he went UPWARD). He said to himself that he would exalt HIS throne (indicating that he had some kind of rule) above the stars of God (angels are referred to in the bible as stars) Lucifer wanted to sit on the throne in heaven in the sides of the north. Satan lusted after God's power and authority. He wanted to take God's throne away from Him and set himself up as supreme ruler. Perhaps he didn't like the fact that God planned on creating mankind and placing them on 'his' earth. Whatever his reasoning Satan rebelled and talked a third of the angels into joining him in fighting against God and the angels that remained loyal to God.

Luke 10:18 Jesus told his disciples, "I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven."

Jude 6: "And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day."

Why would God treat these angles so harshly?

Revelation 12:3-4 "And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crown upon his heads. And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven and did cast them to the earth."

Satan apparently was responsible for the third of the angels who joined him in his rebellion against their Creator to be cast back down to the earth with him.

How can we be sure that the red dragon in Revelation 12:3-4 is referring to Satan?

Re 12:9" And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him."

One can't imagine Satan willingly giving up his attempt to take over the rule of the universe and quietly returing to the earth. No, the Bible tells us he was cast out, and fell like lightning, taking a third of the angels, now rebellious demons, with him. Who knows what happened to the universe during this failed coup of Satan's?

Satan was cast back down to the earth, which had become waste and ruin. Satain was on the earth when God refreshed it - causing it to once more be full of light and beauty.

Satan, as a serpent, was in the Garden of Eden, tempting the first humans to sin against their creator.

The Bible tells us that Satan is still on the earth, as the god of this world, deceiving the majority of the people of who live here.

Re 12:9 "And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

Many who profess to understand the Bible claim that the earth is only 6000 years old. Science claims the earth to be several billion years old. We don't know when God created the earth, what we do know is that it could be very old indeed, and not conflict with what we find written in scripture.

      Consider the first recorded instruction God gave to Adam and Eve after they were created;

"And God said unto them, 'Be fruitful, and multiply and replenish the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.'"

If Adam and Eve were to replenish the earth, it must have had something on it before they were created. The Bible doesn't tell us what existed on the earth before mankind. Is it possible that dinosaurs existed on the earth during Lucifer's rule? We can not say for sure. But it does give us some food for thought.

What we do know is that God tells us that ,"He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son."
