Tad possessed no fur at all. Longing to be like the other Hairywinkles, Tad seeks the advice of the feared outcast, Old Hermit Hairywinkle. From Old Hermit Tad learns of a lotion that a far off mountain dwelling people are said to have developed to help their animals grow thick, luscious fur. Hoping that the lotion still exists, and that it can produce fur on his own smooth body, Tad, and his friends, Mousemole and Rose Rain Hairywinkle, set off to find the mountain with only a rough, hand-drawn map to guide them. It is a dangerous quest they are on, for not only do dangers exist along the way, but Tad has been warned that a huge creature known as Ringthudder guards the mountain cave where the lotion may be located. Can Tad acquire the lotion he has come so far to obtain? Or is its cost too high? Are there, after all, more important matters than 'fitting in'?
