Like those who thought cars would never replace the reliable horse, some people scoff and jeer, and claim e-books are a gimmick and won't last.
It is true that not all e-books are created equal. Some are cheaply made, and it is, no doubt, these that some of the scoffers think of when then claim e-books are a flash in the pan. What they don't realize is that many e-books are well thought out, well written, and creatively designed.
While e-books will never completely replace regular books, there is, and we believe will continue to be, a place for them, doing things regular books can never do.
Here are just a few of the many advantages to electronic books:
Electronic books take up far less space than conventional books.
Electronic books are kinder to trees.
Many electronic books offer new and exciting technological visual and audio innovations.
Stories can be read on screen or parts (or all) of your e-book can be printed off and read at your leisure.
The reader can change the font size of e-books to suit their own personal preference.
E-books catch the interest of modern youth and help children develop a love of reading.
E-books offer a new way to enjoy an old friend when out of copyright books are enhanced with music and attractive graphics.
Many electronic books cost less than the average conventional book you buy at the bookstore!
Who's behind Antelope Publishing?

Antelope Publishing was started in 1995, by John and Joanne Rutis.
John was a technical writer and software engineer. His wife, Joanne, was a fiction and non-fiction writer previously published in both traditional and electronic literature.
What made us get into electronic publishing?
The desire to publish books the whole family can enjoy , and the ability to do e-publishing with its great multi-media possibilities. As we have professional, award winning artists, previously published authors, graphic artists, editors and a computer programmer in our family, electronic books just seemed the right avenue to develop and use our skills.
What does electronic publishing offer that traditional publishers don't?
The beauty and excitement of an electronically enhanced e-book adds pleasure to the reading process. Electronic publishing offers the ability to add sound, animation, hyperlinks and more to books.
What makes Antelope Publishing different from other electronic publishers?
Antelope Publishing books are electronic books that are read on your web browser. No need to pay a big price for an extra piece of merchandise that will enable you to view our books - just pop your CD-ROM into your drive and double-click the start.htm file. You will be taken to a page that allows you to view your book with or without sound. Your book will contain text and graphics just like it would if you were on-line. Works on both Windows and Mac. Netscape and Explorer browsers.
Once we've selected a book that we feel will be of benefit to our readers, our staff at Antelope Publishing spends many hours creating a new, exciting work of art. We don't farm out any of our work to the lowest bidder, but keep control over ALL the process. We value quality over quantity. We're always open to suggestions on how to make our books even better.
Most of our CD-ROM books contain two books on one CD-ROM - one with music enhancement, and one without, for times when a quieter read is desired. Our children's picture books have THREE choices. One: Children can hear the book read to them. Two: Children can read the book with music enhancement, but no voice. Three: Children can read the book without sound. It's a great new way for children to learn, while enjoying a good story.
Why do our e-books cost a little more than the 'average' e-book?
Some have asked why our e-books are not cheaper. They assume that e-publishing doesn't cost anything - therefore the product should cost less. While it is true that many e-books are cheaply made, this isn't the case with Antelope Publishing E-Books. Antelope Publishing books are not LIKE other books, or even other e-books. In fact, there are few, if any, e-publishers offering what Antelope Publishing does.
Once we pay our authors, illustrators, editors, and folks who html the books for us, we also have the expense of the cd-rom and its label, the jewel case with its front and back cover, and the packing and shipping cost, as well as the credit card company who take a slice of the pie. There is also advertising cost, the cost of our ISP, and domain name cost. Hardware and software to create the books needs to be purchased, and constantly updated.
What we are left with is a small profit (hopefully!) - if we asked any less for our books we would, in effect, be giving them away.
Most of our books cost between $8.95 and $14.50. Now that you know all the work and expense involved in the creation of our browser readable e-books, I'm sure you'll agree, that's a small price to pay for such a unique and enjoyable product.
Remember: You don't have to be on-line for your browser to view Antelope Publishing Browser Readable E-Books
